INSTRUCTIONS FOR OBTAINING OTTAWA POLICE RECORDS CHECKS

We recommend the online application for police records checks as it is considerably faster and more convenient.  In the event that you wish to apply in person, please note the instructions below.

Online Application:

  1. Download and enter your name on a copy of the fee waiver letter linked below.  Then scan or photograph the letter for submission online.
  2. Visit the Ottawa Police records check website linked below.  Register to complete your form, then submit your application online.  You will be prompted to submit the Fee Waiver letter online during the application process.
  3. Once you receive your online records check, you can submit it via email to the Volunteer Coordinator.
  4. Please Note: In certain cases, usually where your gender and birth date match someone the police have concerns about, you may be asked to provide fingerprints to confirm you are not the same person. The police department does not keep the fingerprints after confirmation.

In Person Application:

  1. Complete the downloadable application for a Police Record Check (Vulnerable Sector) available at the police website link below.
  2. Print a copy of the Authorization for OPS form from the DTF Executive (linked below)
  3. Bring your completed application, including the letter and all required documentation to one of the locations below:

• 2670 Queensview Drive, Monday-Friday 7:30am-5:30pm (NEPEAN)
• 474 Elgin Street, Monday-Friday 7:30am-5:00pm (DOWNTOWN)
• 211 Huntmar Drive, Monday-Friday 7:30am-5:00pm (KANATA)
• 3343 St. Joseph Blvd, Monday-Friday 7:30am-5:00pm (ORLEANS)

  1. Once the Ottawa Police have approved your police record check, a copy must be provided to the DTF Ottawa Volunteer coordinator prior to flight date. The drop off will likely be at orientation day, unless an email is sent with other information.
  2. The Police Records Check – Vulnerable Sector must be valid within the year prior to flight date.
  3. Please Note: In certain cases, usually where your gender and birth date match someone the police have concerns about, you may be asked to provide fingerprints to confirm you are not the same person. The police department does not keep the fingerprints after confirmation.
